Description

LDN 772 is a dark nebula found within the boundaries of the constellation Vulpecula, about two-thirds of the way from Albireo to the asterism known as the Coat Hanger (Cr 399). It takes its name from the supposed Loch Ness monster, “Nessie”, because its shape is reminiscent of the alleged dinosaur-like shape of the creature. A blue reflection nebula, Van den Bergh 126, is also visible.

I captured the data for this image over three nights from my backyard in Mountain View, dodging the smoke clouds from the enormous wildfires that are raging to the East and to the South. If you’re around the Bay Area, stay safe and stay on the lookout for public safety announcements form your local government and CalFire.
